The Art of Ursela Rabe

There are many sunflower fields in Portugal and I felt like a sunflower myself living there. It was very sad for me to leave such an enchanted place. In this painting, one of the leaves of the sunflower is broken off and my eye is shedding tears for having to leave for a new assignment in the heart of Africa. However, once the tears hit the closest leaves, the tears start dancing - already in anticipation of new experiences by returning to my favorite continent.

The sunflower is mostly intact and thriving, except for one broken off leaf (we always leave a part of us behind). Without being aware of it at the time of painting, I had created a work about the soul vs the spirit. The soul loves to be attached to people, places and experiences. The spirit needs to be free and detached in order to evolve. In the end spirit always wins, that’s why life so often seems difficult and painful. The more we learn to detach from the past and embrace our experiences, the better life gets!

(Note: in 1987, Professor Kitenge-Ya from the University of Lubumbashi, Congo. ‘President of International Art Critics’. coined this a new style “Reflexionisme” which he attributed to Ulla. (Ulla is Ursela Rabe’s artist name) ....

ANSWER TO A MOST UNUSUAL QUESTION:

I believe that the questioner would be with the partner she still has the most to work out with/learn from, had the greatest connection/love with - at least for a while… But, like life here, I believe that the afterlife is not static and there too things change and evolve (otherwise it really would be horribly dull and dead). It’s all about the evolution of the spirit, not necessarily about the comfort of the soul. The soul loves attachment, the spirit needs detachment. Ultimately we follow spirit, i.e. our spiritual evolution. This is not an ego choice, but a spiritual urging which can be painful, but is ultimately the most satisfying and enlightening….

IS THERE AN AFTERLIFE FOR OUR PETS?

Animals are emotional and spiritual beings. They have an astral body and consequently there is an afterlife for all animals, pets or wild. They certainly deserve it. They, like all of Nature, give so much to us who live on this plane - whether perceived by us humans or not.
